Sangeet and mehendi get planned together so often that couples sometimes treat them as one event split across two evenings — they're not, and treating them separately is exactly what makes both land better.
Why sangeet and mehendi need different setups
Mehendi is a daytime, seated, relatively low-energy event built around the mehendi artists and a relaxed social atmosphere — comfortable seating and shade matter more than a dance floor. Sangeet is the high-energy evening event with family performances and a live DJ or band, and needs a proper stage, sound system and open floor space that mehendi simply doesn't.
Managing family performance choreography
The single biggest cause of a sangeet running long is families rehearsing their dance performances independently and never coordinating running order or music handoffs until the day itself. We ask every family performing to confirm their song, duration and entry cue at least a week out, and build the evening's run-of-show around those confirmed slots rather than leaving it open-ended.
Decor that photographs well for each event
Mehendi decor leans into bright florals, string lights and jhoomar-style hanging installations that photograph beautifully in daylight. Sangeet decor needs to hold up under stage lighting and LED washes — that means bolder, saturated colour palettes and a backdrop designed to read well in photos and reels taken under moving light, not just in person.
Timing both events against your main wedding days
Most NCR couples run mehendi the afternoon before sangeet, with the wedding itself a day or two later — tight enough to keep momentum, loose enough that no one is exhausted walking into the main ceremony. If your sangeet performances need real rehearsal time, build at least a few days of buffer before the event, not just before the wedding.
A mehendi that tries to also be a sangeet usually fails at both. Plan them as two different events with two different moods, even on a tight timeline.
