Birthday Party Themes That Never Go Out of Style

Aisha Khan · Wedding Specialist·

We plan birthday parties for one-year-olds and eightieth celebrations, and a handful of themes come back year after year because they simply always land.

Garden & floral

Soft, seasonal, endlessly adaptable — works for a 1st birthday brunch or a 60th garden party with almost no changes beyond the colour palette.

Bollywood night

Dance floor, dhol, dramatic lighting — reliably the highest-energy option for teen and milestone birthdays, and genuinely fun to plan.

Retro / disco

Great for 18th, 21st and 30th birthdays. Disco balls and neon signage are inexpensive to source and photograph extremely well.

Candlelight & minimal

For milestone adult birthdays where the guest of honour wants "elegant, not a kids party" — string lights, a single statement cake table, understated florals.

Theme built around a hobby

The most memorable parties we've done recently weren't built around a colour scheme at all — they were built around what the person actually loves: a home chef's kitchen-themed 50th, a cricket fan's stadium-style setup.

Tell our chat what the celebration is for and we'll suggest three theme directions on the spot.
